The One Hundred Day Creative Challenge: Day 5

The One Hundred Day Creative Challenge: Day 5

Today I’m thinking about how I’m going to approach the New Year.  January’s New Year Resolutions sneer at us in December, confronting us with all we did not achieve.

Self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination are gifts we can use every day. Creativity isn’t just about making things, it’s about using our intellect to solve problems, discuss issues and  make wise choices.

As 2015 begins to slide into the what ifs of 2016 there are some questions I need to ask myself.

  • Do I need to adjust my sails in 2016?
  • Were my choices wise in 2015?
  • Have I grown and developed into the person I want be?
  • What do I need to let go off in the New Year?
  • What do I need to cling to in 2015?
  • What brave decisions will I make?
  • What responses to the issues of the world around me will I choose?

Talk about a creative challenge!

As part of the process I’ve booked in a retreat day with my friend Amanda Viviers in January. I did the same thing last year and it helped me to clarify the goals and dreams I had for the year.

I’ve had a few detours in 2015 —surgery I didn’t expect, my son’s engagement and  wedding, more surgery before Christmas, but overall I’ve inched forward towards the goals I set and feel like I’m moving in the direction I should go. Investing time in a retreat day is priceless.

Self-awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination are tools of the trade in creative living. I’d add faith, spirituality and purpose into the mix.

Freedom to choose is a privilege we should exercise wisely. (Read more about this idea here: http://www.kinwomen.com/the-privilege-of-choice/) Therefore, investing in time and effort into meditating on our lives, choices and directions as we begin a new year is one of the most creative things we can do.
