Take a Moment Monday: Make Good Art

The one thing you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision.

So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.
Neil Gaiman, Make Good Art

I just spent two days with six women on a writing retreat. We had classes around a big wooden table, walked to the local patisserie for lunch, and I had one-on-one sessions with each person.

Each person has a goal to write a book this year and I spoke to them about carving out time to do what you love in the midst of full lives.

It’s worth making time to create.

It’s worth making time to create just for fun.

It’s worth making time to create good art.

Making time to create something makes your life more interesting, exercises your creative muscle, and fulfils that thing in each one of us that is creative.

We all make things. It may not be a painting that will hang in a gallery. It may not be a book that sells in a bookstore. It may not be seen by anyone except you or your family, but your soul will be filled with the joy of creating.

Do what only you do best.

Cook a MasterChef-worthy meal for your family.
Sketch out the layout of your dream house.
Put together a creative holiday for your family.
Write a poem or song.
Sew an outfit.
Make a necklace.

Feb 26th

Our lives are our art. Each day, moment by moment, we are creating our lives. Make good art.

Take some time this Monday to make something. Make it well. Make good art.

love, Elaine
