Appointments For Adventure 16: God Colours

Our church Easter service was a celebration of colour and life. One of the key quotes used was: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world. The Message Matthew 5:14

I have loved reading these words and they inspire me to be a better writer, a better person. Light. God-colours. That’s what I’m supposed to be in the world Light. God-colours. What a wonderful purpose to have.

I work to bring out the God-colours in the world through my writing. I want to write for people who don’t necessarily go to church or have faith. I want to create a picture of God that is filled with love and grace in the midst of the struggle.

I love that my creative friends dance, sing, paint, do makeup and hair, interior design, photography, build houses, repair cars, help fix people’s bodies and minds—everyone I know contributes to the world, adds light and shows God-clolours in our world.  They may or may not acknowledge God in all of that, but it’s how I see the world.

You do not need to work to become spiritual. You are spiritual; you need only to remember that fact. Spirit is within you. God is within you. Julia Cameron

The term Creator is used to describe God, but here it is used as ‘Artist’. God is an artist creating through out the world. At one time the worlds of Science, Art and Religion were not separated out. It was only during the 19th Century that this occurred.

The idea that all is sacred is a beautiful one.

Those who speak in spiritual terms routinely refer to God as creator but seldom see “creator” as the literal term for “artist”. I am suggesting you take the term “creator” quite literally. You are seeking to forge a creative alliance, artist-to-artist with the Great Creator. Accepting this concept can greatly expand your creative possibilities. Julia Cameron

Spirituality and creativity are intrinsically linked. In Julia Cameron’s best known book, The Artist’s Way she says, Creativity is God’s gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God.

So, my appointment for adventure as I sit and write tonight is to bring out the God-colours in the world.
