Easter: a search for meaning

At Easter, the Christian tradition of celebrating spiritual renewal and new life in Christ is everywhere.

April is spring in the northern hemisphere and a time of new life. In the southern hemisphere it’s autumn and, in Perth, where I live, it’s been a lot like summer. The temperatures have been around 30°C, the skies are blue and there’s not a cloud in the sky.

The trees are turning red and brown, but whether because it’s autumn or they are withering in the heat I’m not sure. Most people I know are withering in the heat!

As we celebrate Easter, it’s not the season that speaks to us, it’s the sense of ritual and tradition. Whether you follow the Christian tradition or another religious tradition or none, spiritual renewal is something we can all relate to.

Words like these resonate in our souls:

  • Renewal
  • Love
  • Sacrifice
  • Resurrection
  • Redemption
  • Kindness
  • Reflection
  • The Cross
  • Retreat
  • Restoration
  • Meditation

April is a great month to reflect on these themes and to ponder some of the great questions of life.

From your first breath, you have been on a journey, and a significant part of it has been a search for meaning. Contrary to what you may have been told all your life, God is not offended by your questions, even questions about his existence. He made you inquisitive and curious and has placed within you an unquenchable thirst for knowledge–not for information, but for meaning. We need to know.”
